That said, Rachael is just masterful storytelling. I originally thought we were being dealt a lame version of some kind of walking dead tale, but this story just keeps on surprising me. Rachel wakes up at sunrise on a shallow grave in the woods and discovers the freshly murdered body in the dirt is her own. Originally Starring Lilith, Adam's first wife (yes, THAT Adam), and a bevy of spirits returned from a bitter grave where they were burned or hanged or drowned because they were witches, this story hinges on the idea that Lilith is a physical manifestation of the anger and frustration of the women of the world. And they are pissed. They want theirs, right now. At least that's what we THOUGHT the book was about. Because after a little over a year of this completely engaging, highly entertaining, amazingly beautiful book, Terry says, "Hey, I told you that story so I could tell you this one" and then starts us down another rabbit hole.
And with Terry Moore as my guide that's a pill I'll swallow any time.
Great dialogue, some of the nicest art in comics and drop dead gorgeous women make this a thrill ride, but it isn't for the faint of heart folks. This is Terry at his darkest yet. What lies beyond we may not know, but when it comes back, we all want to steer clear of it and Terry is taking us right into its path. There are forces at work here, and Terry has them well in hand.
This is mesmerizing stuff you should be reading…
